Entryway & Stairs

Above Kass works on the Entryway floor with her heat gun.  The sanding only took off so much and could not get into this small area very well.  Above right the main area was sanded better but still a lot of paint adhered to the floor.  Right the smaller section is good to go after Kass' diligent work!

On the weekend of June 7th, 2008 we re-installed the french doors between the Parlor and Entryway.

Here you can see the newly installed light fixtures completed on March 7th

After Rick re-wired and hooked the light fixture up to the box, Kass climbed up to adjust it with her smaller hands that fit into smaller places than his. <grin>  We're not sure if we'll like this fixture here or not, but we're trying it for now.

A couple of evening shots after Thanksgiving.  The color looks a little different here.

                entry
no more mildew!!!
Kass scraped all the peeling paint, bleached and washed the walls and ceiling, repaired the cracks in the plaster and primed and....
PAINTED!  The Entryway, with no more mildew!  Now we need to paint the floor and finish the electrical in this area.

........................................
As you can see, a color was decided on.  Kass picked out and painted this color over the last few weeks.  It looks different from angle to angle with the different lighting on it.  Once we have electricity in the house and the lights hooked up, we'll finally see what it looks like for certain.

On September 16th, Kass and her sister in law, Janette Kirchhofer, cleaned, scraped, bleached and swept out the stairs.  Soon we may be painting this area...if we can ever decide on a color to paint it that is!

Back together!
On Father's Day weekend, while waiting to work on another project, Rick reconstructed the top two pieces of the stairway bannister post and put it all back together.

Working window!
Just a quick update since we havent touched this page in two years!  On March 3rd, 2007 we found a replacement sash as the lower half of this window was broken and it was actually a sideways window sash that did not belong in the window!  We've also run wiring to do a chandelier here with a switch at the top & bottom of the stairwell.

Looking West
Looking North
Looking towards the Kitchen.  The small alcove under the main stairs may become the entryway to an unfinished Basement should we have one.  Right now it is just a closet area.
Much of the plaster in here will need some treating to clean it up.  We'd like to retain it and keep the true 'original' look to this whole area if possible, including the original fir wood flooring.

Things are
                looking up.
Stairway from upper landing to the next set up to the 2nd floor Hallway (pictured right).  Again, we want to save the plaster if possible, and are undecided about sanding & staining the stairs, or painting them much as they are now.
Up Up and away!

It's a clean machine...
Take a load off
Cleaned up view of the entryway, a bench seat opens for storage.  Going to need a lot of Pledge to get the shine back on the stair rail though. ;-) Closeup of the bench seat.  Just a little dusting & waxing to restore it.  Don't tell Kass but there's some Coca Cola bottles hidden in here.  Being a Pepsi drinker she wont approve.  :)

Come on in!
We cleared some the debris from the front door area, and are now able to open it.  The remaining porch was a bit too 'soft' to save.
The door lock fixture appears to be brass and may be repairable.

Come on
                in! Woodwork
Excellent condition Entryway doors.  Rick's mom told us "If for no other reason, save this door!" Shot of the stairs & woodwork.  This room is in the best condition of the whole house.

Railing Up, up and away!
Minor damage on the corner post, about the only damage in this room! Paint flecks off the stairwell wall, with very limited/minor cracks in the plaster.
